Do you think you are an empath? Are you afraid it has affected you in a negative way? Continue reading to understand yourself and the beautiful perspective you hold.
The most beautiful aspect of life is how it induces some of the most profound experiences in a short duration.
In life, we all come across different experiences but the profundity lies in how we experience them. We are a product of our experiences and, at the same time, we all derive different conclusions from similar experiences. I wonder about this ability to derive something unique. We are all different, yet completely the same.
In that essence, there are some amongst us who’ve developed a more receptive ability to sense the emotions and thoughts of others. Such people have been labeled as Empaths.
What is an Empath?
Empath, as the name suggests, is the simple and basic ability to empathize. Why do we label them as such? It is simply because of their superior ability to empathize on a degree that is alien to the larger segments that comprise our society or race.
Empaths are just like you and me, but they are significantly more sensitive to the energies exuded by others surrounding them.
Frankly, we are all quite aware that we are a product of our surroundings. In that sense, we are continuously influenced by other people’s wishes, desires, thoughts, and state of mind.
Empaths, however, can perceive spiritual and physical slights, which most are unable to do. One cannot one day wake up and decide to live the life of an empath. You are either born as one or you are not.
Empaths are the quieter observers amongst us. They can be highly expressive about their emotional state and this is due to their sensitivity towards emotional connections.
Since they are extremely sensitive to environmental influences, most experience things such as chronic fatigue due to constantly absorbing external energies and emotions.
All the while, they can be quite reclusive and unresponsive and may even appear to be ignorant to some. And this variable mostly depends on every individual and their ability to cope.
World through the Eyes of an Empath
Many claim that being an empath is a double edged sword — a blessing and a curse. I feel though we are all unique and distinct, and in that sense everything can be a double edged sword.
One can only experience true contentment when they have learned to be comfortable with themselves. Though, that may sound easy, it is probably one of the most difficult things we have to do as humans, i.e. feel comfortable without our own skins.
A Superior Form of Defense Mechanism
Empaths are those who have developed a way to remain safe in the world. Just imagine, if you could sense what your friend was feeling, you could simply adjust yourself and present yourself accordingly.
Empaths can use their heightened sense to either heal others or protect themselves. The ability to know things others don’t, allows one to shift the tone of one’s voice, the style of conversation and the choice of words.
These are some of the things people dream about. Through maturity and control, one can feel at more ease through this ability.
Self-Care through the Care of Others
Most empaths tend to derive satisfaction through the care of others. It may seem like a self-defeatist concept to self-care, but it is difficult to understand those who are different.
Empaths, generally, feel uncomfortable due to other people’s negative emotions and it causes them to avoid confrontations in order to preserve their own feelings.
It is also quite common for them to forget about what they themselves are feeling, and the realization can be quite an experience.
Most empaths are spiritually awakened and more aware. It is like waking up from our sleep and experiencing a profound shift in consciousness. It isn’t the ability to understand our feeling but rather the ability to feel the feelings we are experiencing.
When you can literally feel the actual feeling, you are more likely to care as it impacts you on an emotional level.
Upon a simple search about Empaths on the internet, the person would be overloaded with these seemingly positive articles about them.
However, I’ve felt that most of them teach things such as developing a shield body or getting used to being the bad guy. All of this induces further negativity on an already marginalized and labeled segment of society.
I want you, the reader, whether an empath or not, to understand that empaths are humans just like you.
If you are an empath, then understand that you are beautiful no matter what and there is no need to change yourself to better conform to society.
Learn to love and respect yourself and everything else will fall in place. Being unique is what makes us all beautiful and interesting.
