Increasing intelligence is something that many people would be interested in learning how to do. Read on for more details and to find that it is indeed possible to raise your IQ level. It is actually much easier than you might expect, if you are prepared to put in the time and effort on a regular basis.

#4. Challenge yourself every day

The first thing you need to do is make sure that you are making the most of the brain power that you already possess. One of the easiest ways in which you can begin to do this is to tackle a logic puzzle or other mind game on a regular basis, preferably every day. You can find these in the majority of daily newspapers, or by buying a book containing your preferred type of puzzle.


Once you have reached the state where you are finding this type of puzzle easy and they are not taking you long to complete, then you either need to find some more difficult examples or move onto a different type. If you are not continually providing a challenge to the brain, then its processing power will not need to increase, so it will remain the same as before.

#3. Meditation and increasing intelligence

You might be surprised to find that meditation has a significant impact on a person’s intelligence. This ancient practice has been used for thousands of years, but we are now able to determine exactly what the physical benefits are. Research has demonstrated that regular meditation increases the amount of grey matter in the brain, which enables information to be learned and processed more quickly.

The amount of white matter is also increased, which makes connections between different regions of the brain. It also encourages the different parts of the brain to work together more effectively, which is described as whole brain synchronization.

Meditation also alters your state of mind, making you more receptive to learning and retaining new information. The lightest state of meditation is when the brainwave pattern changes from beta (non-meditating) to alpha, and this promotes learning. The next stage of meditation is deeper, and results in theta brainwave patterns being produced. This is an ideal state for problem solving.

#2. Look after your body – get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep is vitally important to the functioning of your brain. Regardless of how much time you spend training and challenging yourself, if you do not look after your body properly, then it will not have the result you are looking for. Sleep is important to refresh and renew your brain. The deepest level of meditation can only be reached in dreamless sleep, and this restores your body and mind. Being tired will prevent you from working at the most efficient level you are able to reach.

If you are having difficulty getting to sleep, then you may want to look at certain aspects of your lifestyle, such as your diet.

#1. Changes to your diet can help your brain

Caffeine is generally thought to have negative effects on the body, but when it is in the form of coffee, research has shown that it can actually be beneficial to the brain. Coffee contains high levels of antioxidants, which help to prevent memory loss with age, so if you are a regular coffee drinker, you may want to cut down how much you drink in the afternoon, but don’t cut it out completely.

Antioxidants can also be found in fruits and vegetables, so eating a wide range of these will also have beneficial effects for your brain. Try not to peel the fruit, because many of these chemicals are found in or near the skin.
